Death of Edward Plunkett, Lord Dunsany

The death occurred on Tuesday 24th May of Edward Carlos Plunkett, the 20th Baron Dunsany, of Dunsany Castle. Aged 71, Plunkett succeeded to the title on the death of his father, Lt Col Randal Plunkett, in 1999. He had been in ill-health in recent years. An artist and architect, he was based in London, Rome, and New York, as well as spending short periods in Brazil and France, before his return to the family estate near the Hill of Tara. Edward Plunkett co-founded de Marsillac Plunkett Inc, Designers and Architects, New York. His grandfather, also Edward, was a noted writer and playwright, who encouraged the careers of writer Mary Lavin and poet Francis Ledwidge, and was a contemporary of Yeats and Gregory. Other prominent members of the Anglo-Irish family were St Oliver Plunkett, the martyr who was beatified in 1975, and Sir Horace Plunkett, the founder of the Co-operative Movement and Ireland's first head of the Department of Agriculture. The 20th Baron is survived by his wife, Marie Alice de Marsillac Plunkett; sons Randal and Oliver, sister, Beatrice, and stepfamily. See also: http://www.edwardplunkett.com/
