Death of Biddy White Lennon, The Riordan's Maggie
Food writer and former actress, Biddy White Lennon, has died.
She was best known as Maggie Nael, who married Tom Hickey's Benjy Riordan in RTE's first rural drama, 'The Riordans'.
The television series, which ran from 1965 to 1979, was filmed at Connolly's Farm at the Flathouse in Dunboyne, and in Kilbride village, where the 'big wedding' took place in the local church.
The patriarch, Tom Riordan, was played by Ardbraccan man John Cowley.
White-Lennon's passion for food began in the kitchens of some of Dublin’s leading restaurants where she worked whenever she was “resting” from acting. She later became a noted cook and food writer. She was a founder member and chairwoman of the Irish Food Writers Guild, editor and food writer of Irish Home Diary and regularly contributor to Food and Wine Magazine.
As a judge on The Great Irish Bake-Off, Biddy displayed her passion for great food that can be cooked by ordinary people in their own homes.
From Dublin, she lived in Wexford with her husband, Denis Latimer, who passed away last December,. Their son, Darsie, survives them.
