Oldcastle and Moynalty claim league crowns
Oldcastle's late flurry of goals ensured they were the big winners in Pairc Tailteann today as they lifted the A FL Div 2 title with a 4-15 to 0-14 victory over Syddan.
The 13-point margin of defeat was harsh on Syddan as they were still very much in contention with just 12 minutes remaining as they trailed by 0-012 to 1-12.
However a 1-3 blast in four minutes put Oldcastle in the driving seat and in the closing minutes Stephen Tierney and Peter Monaghan added further goals to seal the win which was inspired by Robert Farrelly's superb personal return of 2-4.
In today's other game at Meath GAA headquarters Moynalty ended 14 years without a first team trophy when they got the better of Ballivor in a thrilling A FL Div 4 decicer by 2-9 to 0-14.
Christy Cahill proved to be the hero for Moynalty as he kicked the winning point, but it was Paul Lynch's inspirational return of 2-6 that ensured Moynalty were celebrating.
