Two-wheeled action for Fairyhouse
Fairyhouse racecourse is currently undergoing a major development to facilitate the 2008 Irish Motocross Grand Prix which will take place at the famous home of the Irish Grand National on Saturday, 30th and Sunday, 31st August. The event was officially launched last week ahead of racing at the track and officials from Motorcycling Ireland outlined their plans for the event. The 2008 Irish Motocross Grand Prix will take place on an all-new purpose built track which will be located in front of the substantial stands at the track. Construction of the circuit has progressed well following the successful inspection tour of Fairyhouse by various officials which will see the return of World Championship Motocross to Ireland following a gap of 12 years. The Munster MCC last hosted the FIM Motocross World Championships in 1996. There is widespread agreement that the spectator and trackside facilities at Fairyhouse would set new standards in the world of motocross. The spectator facilities gained top marks from the visiting officials who were very impressed that spectators would be able to see the entire circuit. The paddock area, where the motor homes and team trucks will be parked for the duration of the Irish Grand Prix, was also praised. Construction of the race circuit will finish by the end of this month and during the track building process, a second inspection will be carried out. 'The meeting and inspection tour by the organising committee was very successful and has set in place a very sound foundation for not only this year"s Grand Prix, but for the 2009 and 2010 events which will also take place at Fairyhouse,' commented the man who will be in charge of the event, clerk of the course, Tony Skillington. The Grand Prix will be a major showcase for motocross in Ireland which will see all the worlds top riders in attendance and it is quite possible that a world champion will be crowned at the Irish Grad Prix as it is round 13 of this year"s 15-round MX1 and MX2 FIM Motocross World Championship. Two Irish riders, Ross Brown from Kildare and Stuart Edmonds from Dublin are currently preparing to take on the best motocross riders at the Irish Grand Prix. Both riders are currently training and competing in Ireland and the UK to qualify for the Irish Motocross Grand Prix
