Clonard make the frame

Clonard secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Junior B FC following a comprehensive victory over Cortown at Athboy on Friday evening. The opening half was a tense, low-scoring affair with the sides deadlocked on 0-3 each at the interval. However, after the resumption Cortown failed to score again and it was Clonard with Declan Rowley and Kenneth Darby to the fore with nine points between them that claimed the victory. Eamonn Bowe and Michael Johnson indicated how easy it would be for Dunshaughlin as early goals boosted their side to a 2-10 to 0-2 interval advantage. The opening five minutes of the second period belonged to Dunderry as they grabbed 1-2 to stun Dunshaughlin. However, the winners settled again with Padraig O"Dwyer and Trevor Dowd both netting to ensure the easy win. The Kells men took their chances well and were 1-6 to 0-1 ahead at the break courtesy of Joe Flanagan"s goal while Bective squandered several decent scoring opportunities. After the resumption Bective improved, but still missed crucial goal chances as Gaeil Colmcille tagged on the vital scores.
