St Ultan"s down Black stuff with shock Feis Cup win

St Ultan"s produced the shock of the week with a stunning victory over senior side Walterstown in their Feis Cup second round tie at Simonstown on Thursday evening. The winners raced into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead following points from Cian Rennicks, Brian Galligan and Tomas Coyne and St Ultan"s continued to dominate to take a 0-7 to 0-2 interval lead. Walterstown improved after the resumption, but they couldn"t get any closer than three points and it was Daryl McLoughlin who seal the win for St Ultan"s. Skryne defeated Seneschalstown in the A FL Div 1 final last year, so Thursday"s win was sweet revenge for Damien Sheridan"s charges. The contest was close throughout and the sides were tied 0-6 each before Kevin Mulvaney"s goal gave Skryne a 1-6 to 0-6 interval lead. With Brian Sheridan and Shane Clarke sharing eight points between them Seneschalstown remained in touch before Macken"s winning goal stunned Skryne. The home side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and lead 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. However, Kenneth Rothwell"s goal boosted Ballinlough and gave them a 1-5 to 0-5 interval advantage. That advantage was maintained throughout the second-half as St Michael"s closed to within a point before Ballinlough pulled two clear again and that is how it finished. Ballinlough are in a strong position to secure promotion and St Michael"s should join them.
