County committee regret Coyle's decision
Following Colm Coyle and Tommy Dowd"s decision to step down from their positions with the Meath senior football team, Meath Co Committee issued a statement thanking them for their efforts. Coiste na Mí CLG. accepts, with regret, the decision of Colm Coyle to step down as manager of the Senior Football team. We are deeply appreciative of the efforts that Colm has invested in his attempts to bring a Leinster or All-Ireland title to the County. In his first year in charge he guided the team, contrary to expectations, to an All-Ireland semi-final as well as to the National League, Division 2 title. Colm Coyle has given remarkable service to Meath football, both as a player and manager and we thank him most sincerely. We wish Colm all the best in the future. Coiste na Mí C.L.G. would also like to place on record its appreciation of the efforts of Colm"s colleagues on team management, Tommy Dowd and Dudley Farrell, as well as the other members of the back-up team. It is also with sadness that we note the retirements of both Darren Fay and Graham Geraghty. Darren and Graham have been key members of the county team for several years and played major roles in the All-Ireland successes of 1996 and 1999 as well as reaching the Final in 2001. They were also key figures in various successes at under-age level and both went on to represent Ireland as well as becoming All-Stars. There is no doubt that they have been two of the finest footballers ever to wear the Meath jersey. We wish Darren and Graham all the best in the years to come.
