Art attack!
Ratoath"s budding Picassos and Renoirs enjoyed the very successful art summer camp at Ratoath Community Centre last week. Some 28 children participated in the Ratoath Youth Art Summer Camp, which saw them engage in a variety of arts and craft activities - from oil painting and clay modelling to calligraphy and fabric painting. The event was run by two local artists, Janet Bolger and Mike Daly, who also run the weekly children"s art club in the centre. The summer camp catered for children aged seven to 15 with the younger children enjoying a mixture of arts and crafts, collages and tile painting and, in particular, anthing that involved glue. The older participants were more interested in the oil painting and calligraphy. Janet Bolger said they were quite a talented bunch and they all enjoyed the many different activities. In fact, they plan to exhibit some of the work in the centre this week. Janet and Mike are both members of the local adult art group and they decided to organise the weekly art club for children, as the main group was not open to youngsters. The Ratoath Youth Art Club meets in the community centre every Saturday morning between 10 and 11.30am. Some of those who attended last weeks camp were members of the art club. Children from the Ratoath, Ashbourne and Dunshaughlin area participated.
