Final ticket for slick Wolfe Tones

Wolfe Tones proved too strong for Dunsany as they powered their way to victory in the Junior D FC semi-final at Bective on Friday evening. This was one of the few games that went ahead over the weekend despite the conditions and the Tones were delighted that it did as they went on to win with plenty to spare. Early points from Alan Callaghan, Tommy Dowd and Eanna Harrington set the Tones on their way. Mark McKeever combined with Dowd to set up Ciaran Shaw who finished for his team"s opening goal. Harrington and Aidan McKeever tagged on points before Dowd set up McKeever who fisted to the net. Dunsany lofted over a point on the 25th minute and at the break they tailed by 0-1 to 2-7. Clann na nGael 1-13 Donaghmore/Ash 1-11 After extra-time Clann na nGael produced a spirited performance when they overcame Donaghmore / Ashbourne in the Junior D FC semi-final at Seneschalstown on Friday evening. However, it took two injury-time points from Clann na nGael to force extra time in a thrilling encounter. Sean Keenan"s goal in the first-quarter put Donaghmore / Ashbourne ahead, but it was cancelled out by John Daly"s strike from a high ball, however the Donaghmore / Ashbourne players were in command at the break by 1-5 to 1-2. Clann na nGael kept chipping away at the lead and two injury-time points forced extra time. Clann na nGael had the better of the opening period and out-scored the south Meath side by 0-5 to 0-1. Solid defending from the Athboy side and an inspired display from Daly in the second period of extra-time saw them through to the Junior D Championship final where they will face Wolfe Tones. JUNIOR C Blackhall Gaels 3-10 Moynalvey 4-5 The concession of a late goal proved costly for Moynalvey as they were sent tumbling out of the Junior C FC at the quarter-final stage at Dunganny on Wednesday of last week. Moynalvey suffered a nightmare start and were adrift by 0-0 to 2-3 after nine minutes, but they fought back to trail by 3-1 to 2-7 at the break with goals from Ray Ryan, Shane Collins and Ger McHale. Another goal from Ryan early in the second-half drew the sides level. Blackhall split the posts to regain the lead before points from Collins (two) and Sean Carroll edged Moynalvey in front with the minutes ticking away. Blackhall responded with a goal and Moynalvey missed a gilt-edged goal chance late on before Blackhall pointed to progress to a semi-final against Dunboyne. The Stamullen side were ahead by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break thanks to some enterprising attacking football. The loss of Ben Baxter with an injury just before the break affected St Pat"s and they struggled to find their form in the second-half. Trim went a point in front with a little over 10 minutes to go, but St Pat"s put in a late flourish with points from Fran Mooney, Alan Vickers and Fergus Minogue helping them secure the win. Niall Russell, Karl Heffernan and Mooney were excellent for the winners who will now face neighbours St Vincent"s in the semi-final.
