Eircom finally acts over Drumbaragh pole... after seven months

DRUMBARAGH village has finally lost its pole - seven months after Eircom was pressed to remove it from the footpath in the centre of the heavily-trafficked village. Cllr Michael Gallagher is pictured on the unfinished path with local resident Kieran Meegan before the works were finally carried out. The problem of poles left on footpaths was one 'Eircom was guilty of elsewhere in the county, including Mooneystown and Drumconrath', said the councillor. It was unsatisfactory that a bureaucracy should expose local pedestrians to risk for months before properly positioning the poles. The councillor joined his Kells colleague Conor Ferguson in calling for special consideration for local applicants with ties to Headfort Grove, in the allocation of social housing units there under the refurbishment scheme. Residents had to be kept abreast of developments, they urged and welcomed the planned re-opening of the Maudlin Road pedestrian entry within 14 weeks. Cllr Gallagher claimed pedestrians in Ráth Cairn had been severely discommoded by ongoing roadworks with the new sewerage scheme there, with some reopened roads in worse condition than when they were first closed. He said he would seek to have Bóthar Tam Taimín included in next year"s roadworks scheme since so many new houses had been constructed there. 'That road has not been upgraded for the past 20 years,' he added.
