McDonogh's double beach delight
For the second year in succession Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh rode the winner of the opening race at Laytown when he guided Mt Weather to victory on the sand. And to further emulate his 2007 acheivement on the Laytown beach McDonogh completed his double in the 4.0 race when he guided Gordon Elliott's Silidan to victory. On the sand last year McDonagh opened the card on board the Paul Magnier trained Lilly Be in the 50-70 handicap over six furlongs and on Thursday he took charge of Mt Weather for the Don"t Let On Syndicate which was trained by Richard Donohoe and claimed the honours in the opening Seaview Slovakia 50-70 handicap also over six furlongs. McDonogh"s 7/1 mount won by a short head from Patrickswell with favourite Dafaroun out of the picture. Lilly Be finished in fourth for Magnier who had Ger Lyons stable jockey Keagan Latham in the saddle. McDonogh followed that win on board Silidan when the James Morrow owned horse romped home by a length and three-quarters to win at 10/1. See Wednesday's Meath Chronicle for further details of all the action at Laytown races, including notable local successes.
