Olympic boxer returns to school with bronze medal

Olympic medal-winning boxer Darren Sutherland returned to his former school, St Peter's College in Dunboyne this week to show his bronze medal to the students there. Sutherland, who completed his Leaving Certificate in the school in 2004, as a mature student, was named that year's student of the year. He had returned to school as a 21 year old as he needed a Leaving Certificate to get a third level education, and is now studying sports science at DCU. He outlined to the students the dream of achievemnt he had and the hard work, dedication and commitment needed to get there. Principal Eamon Gaffney paid tribute to his tenacity, commitment and sacrifice. Sutherland will be the recipient of the Meath Chronicle Sports Personality of the Month Award for August on Friday, 19th September.
