Aslan headlining 2008 Hallowe"en Hooley
The Castle Arch Hotel in Trim is the venue for this year"s 'Halloween Hooley" which will take place on the Sunday of the October bank holiday weekend, 26th October. The 'Hooley" is growing in popularity each year and this year"s event should continue the trend with Aslan as the headline act. They continue the impressive list of Hooley headline acts in recent years such as HotHouse Flowers, Jerry Fish, The Classic Beatles and Boogie Nights. Aslan, who took their name from the heroic lion in CS Lewis"s series of books chronicling the fictional land of Narnia, emerged from the working class areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin"s northside, in the mid 1980s. Famously torn apart by overindulgence of all kinds, five years and a day to the last time they gigged together in 1993, they played what was supposed to be a one off charity gig in Finglas; the spark was reignited and Aslan landed a new record deal with BMG. The first fruit of the deal, their single 'Crazy World", entered the charts at Number 4 and stayed in the charts for three months, becoming one of the most played songs on Irish radio for the year. 2007 was an exciting year for the band as it marked their 25 years together, with their first single 'Here Comes The Sun" from their album 'For Some Strange Reason" entering the Irish singles charts at Number 5. The success of this album led to the band receiving 'Best Irish Band" at the 2008 Meteor Awards. Tickets for the 'Halloween Hooley 2008" are now on sale and cost €20. Last year"s event proved a huge success with the added Fancy Dress theme and the organiser"s of the Hooley are again encouraging people to come in their best fancy dress. Tickets can be purchased from Castle Arch Hotel, Tobin"s Shop, Market St, Trim, or any Boardsmill GAA committee member.
