Macra bands jam for Oxfam

A weekend of music acts performing doubling up as a fundraiser took place in Athboy over a recent weekend when members the local Macra na Feirme organised 'Oxjam". Some €700 was raised to help Oxfam with its work in developing countries. Four bands, The Renegades, Good with Waffles, Crawdaddy Mango and Tuna Fish Mafia played to a packed out crowd in Doran"s Music Venue. The Renegades hail from the newly set up North Meath Club and wowed the crowds with rock tracks. Other music tastes were catered for with current pop-rock from the Waffles, old style indie from the Mafia and Reggae tunes from Crawdaddy Mango. On the Sunday the tone was taken down a notch with a traditional music session, which added to the funds for Oxfam. Athboy Macra na Feirme kicked off the autumn with a club exchange in Rathcormac, Cork from 26th to 28th of September. Ten members headed to the rebel county to mix with the Clonakilty Macra Club. There were workshops of all kinds from sean nos dancing to salsa to belly dancing and hip hop and a trip to Castlelyons for a traditional music evening. The Athboy members, no strangers to music had brought their instruments and a great session ensued. The Meath seven-a-side Gaelic football final also took place on 28th September in Batterstown.
