Navan Chamber swaps doom and gloom for glamour and glitz

Despite the economic gloom pervading all walks of life in recent times, Navan Chamber of Commerce rolled out a red carpet to welcome guests to its annual black tie ball on Saturday night. A red carpet entrance led guests in Navan"s Newgrange Hotel to a Coole Swan Premium Irish Cream Liqueur cocktail bar where they were treated to a range of delicious cocktails to kick off the Hollywood-themed event. Glamorous resistance to the recession was in evidence with guests showing up in all their their finery. Guests enjoyed a 'fork supper" with complimentary wine provided by the Newgrange Hotel, followed by a guest appearance from the king of rock 'n" roll, 'Elvis". The hotel"s ballroom was transformed with spectacular lighting and sound thanks to the hard work of Enda Nugent and his team as confetti cannons were released throughout the night to add to the party atmosphere. After 'Elvis" left the building, one of Ireland"s longest established live bands, Luv Bug, who represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest way back in recessionary 1986, played an outstanding two-hour non-stop show, with great music from Abba, The Bee Gees. Cher and Blondie, to name but a few. Prizes donated by local businesses raised much-need monies for the nominated charity of the night, Heart Children Ireland. Navan Chamber president Mary Sadlier expressed her thanks to the organising committee, all those who contributed prizes and all who attended the event. 'It"s impossible to name you all, but we are sincerely appreciative of your support and look forward to seeing you next year to celebrate the Chamber"s 50th Birthday!' she declared.
