Kentstown Rovers advance in FAI Cup

Kentstown Rovers enjoyed another good outing in the FAI Junior Cup when they advanced to the next round with a narrow win over top Dublin side Whitehall Celtic on Sunday. Kentstown have a good tradition in this competition and they made it to the quarter-finals in 2001. Sunday"s victory also stretched Kentstown"s unbeaten home record to 20 games over two years. Following a scoreless first-half during which the Meath side were under a little bit of pressure, Kentstown made the breakthrough after the resumption when Gareth Toal rifled to the net from all of 30 metres. Kentstown had to endure a tense finish after they were reduced to 10 men for a second yellow card, but with Shaun Doyle, Stephen Murphy, Toal and Keith Shields in superb form they held on.. Premier league champions Glenmuir made it to the third round in a closely fought tie away to Maynooth Town, in which they won 2-1 with goals from Ciaran Sheedy and Paddy Reilly. Carrick Rovers lost (0-2) to recent finalists, St John Bosco and Ardee Celtic lost out 1-2 at home to Whitestown. St Vincent"s Hospital conceded home advantage and came away with a narrow 2-1 win over Robinstown at the MDL in Navan. In the Leinster Junior Shield at the MDL, Johnstown were impressive winners by 6-1 against Dundrum Athletic. Eoin Sheridan, who now resides in Dundrum, was on the scoresheet for the Navan side along with his brother Shane, Dave Grumley, Kevin O"Connell, Ciaran Croke and Ian Harding. However, Beaufort Wanderers received a walkover when Dinamo Town failed to show. MDL PREMIER Woodview 3 Duleek 3 Duleek earned a point in a six-goal thriller against Woodview. After conceding early goals a fine strike by Derek Cummins boosted the Meath side close to the interval and shortly after the resumption Pasddy Coates scored a great equaliser. Woodview rallied and took the lead again, but battling Duleek never gave up and were rewarded with the last kick of the game when Noel Burke finished well. DIVISION 1 Longwood 1 Bellurgan 0 Longwood have reached the top of the MDL Div 1 table for the first time in their short history courtesy of this victory over top Dundalk side Bellurgan on Sunday morning. The visitors were guilty of some poor finishing in a tight first-half, Longwood upped the tempo after the resumption and were rewarded when prolific striker Ian Keenan finished to the net from an Aaron Ennis cross.. Michael Burke was guilty of not doubling the lead with 10 minutes to go when he dragged his shot wide after a fine individual run. Best for Longwood were Aleric Costigan, Colm Harte and Burke. OMP Utd 3 Kells/Blackwater 2 After a slow start of the season OMP Utd got their second win when they defeated Kells / Blackwater. Goals from Mickey Brennan in each half and a fine Hank Traynor effort paved the way to this narrow victory while Kells / Blackwater stayed in touch through second-half goals from Danny McGovern and David Connolly. Best for the Kells side were Paddy Henningan, McGovern, Steve McManus and John Rennicks. PREMIER A RESERVE Torro Utd 1 Newtown Utd 2 Kevin McKeever"s 58th minute penalty gave Torro the lead, but they were unable to hold on for victory as Newtown finished with a flourish which produced two late goals.
