Dramatic escape for lady in car blaze

A woman had a miraculous escape when her car burst into flames following a collision on the Dunshaughlin-Ratoath road last Wednesday evening. The woman was trapped in her car after the impact which occurred at around 6pm and, as fire units rushed to the scene, Gardai closed off Dunshaughlin village for a short period to speed up the firefighters" progress. However, the woman managed to free herself from the vehicle, which exploded seconds after she got out. She was taken to Our Lady"s Hospital in Navan with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured. Meanwhile, Gardai investigating a fire which destroyed the Last Straw pub in Bettystown last week do not believe the cause of the blaze was malicous. The fire swept through the pub in the centre of Bettystown at around 2.15am on Tuesday morning last, destroying the interior of the premises. Fire appliances from Drogheda and Balbriggan fought the blaze for over two hours. Nobody was injured in the incident. The scene was examined by Gardai who now believe the cause may have been accidental. The blaze came just weeks after another fire destroyed the historic Cosy Bar in Bellewstown and, earlier this year, the popular Julianstown Inn also was extensively damaged by fire. Meanwhile a foreign-registered VW Camper van burst into flames on the inner relief road close to Flower Hill in Navan on Sunday night (pictured above). Two fire appliances from the nearby Navan Fire Station were quickly on the scene to douse the flames with foam. All the occupants of the van escapes before the flames took hold.
