Cortown girls win in style

Cortown completed a double at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday when they won the Meath Primary Schools" Girls" Div 5 decider with a fine display against a gallant Dunsany side. The Dunsany girls found the going tough against the first-half elements and trailed by 0-0 to 3-6 at the interval. Cortown seized the initiative from as early as the first minute when Niamh O"Keeffe pointed a free and she also found the net twice in that opening half. Aine Brennan claimed the other Cortown goal as Dunsany were forced on to the backfoot although they had sterling performances from Nancy Foley and Megan Thynne. After the resumption Dunsany took the blank look off the scoreboard when Foley split the posts in the opening minute. However, that was as good as it got for the girls in red who had already lost to Cortown in the qualifying group. Dunsany also enjoyed excellent victories over Ballinacree, Cushinstown, Mulhussey and Meath Hill, as did Cortown, and they showed good character throughout as they never gave up the fight. However, on this occasion, a physically stronger and more imposing Cortown team called the shots and were worthy winners.
