Motor tax online facilities provided as offices close
The controversial suspension of motor tax services in Duleek and Dunshaughlin is to go ahead from this coming Friday, 21st November. To minimise disruption to Meath County Council"s customers, the change will bring the introduction of dedicated online facilities in Duleek and Dunshaughlin offices as well as in Kells, Ashbourne and Trim offices which previously had no motor tax facilities. Due to the termination of a frame relay service by Eircom, the county council has been forced to suspend the current motor tax service in Duleek and Dunshaughlin, it reiterated this week. The council added it was introducing the the improvements to its motor tax service throughout the entire county from next Monday, 24th November. It said that the new system would see dedicated online facilities being provided in the Kells, Ashbourne and Trim local authority offices which previously had no motor tax facilities. These facilities will also be provided in Duleek and Dunshaughlin civic offices in place of the current system. These services will provide facilities for the majority of its customers to tax their vehicles in a safe and secure manner. Once the transaction is completed, a new tax disc would issue by post within a few days, the council said. For transactions that cannot be completed online, the council says it will provide special envelopes that will allow the motor tax application to be submitted to the main motor tax office at Railway Street, Navan, which will continue to deal with all transactions, including driving licence applications and commercial licences. These applications cannot be dealt with in the area offices, the council said. Postal applications can be submitted, as always, with a prepaid envelope provided with every tax renewal notification. 'We would remind all customers that the most convenient way to carry out motor tax transactions is online at www.motortax.ie,' said a county council spokesperson. 'The system is secure, simple to use and requires a PIN number which is issued with each renewal notification.' The Meath Motor Tax office can be contacted on (046) 902 2416 for any queries.
