Moynalvey enjoys victory over rivals

Moynalvey claimed the Meath Primary Schools" Boys" Div 5 final on Saturday following a great tussle with nearby rivals Coole. When these players mature and move up to adult football, inside the next decade, it is likely that Moynalvey will once again become a major force in Meath club football while Summerhill will also benefit from the same process. On Saturday, Moynalvey were ahead by 2-5 to 0-2 at the interval after they capitalised on an abundance of possession and laid the foundations for success. Adam Murphy claimed the first goal after nine minutes when he pounced on a loose ball and first-timed to the net from close range. Joseph Martin"s centre took a deflection for the second goal soon after and with points from David McLoughlin (three), Brian and Conor Harnan, Moynalvey were always in the ascendancy. Coole were worth more than a brace of Eamonn McDonnell points for all their grit and determination during that opening half, but they also found it difficult to cope with the probing runs of Martin, McLoughlin and Brian Harnan from midfield. Coole fell further adrift shortly after the resumption when Brian Harnan finished to the net from a tight angle, but they kept battling as the outstanding Charlotte Brogan provided a lot of inspiration from the half-back line. Points from McDonnell and Aaron Williams gave them some hope and when substitute Laoise Devlin rifled to the net with four minutes remaining it set up the prospects of a storming finish. However, any thoughts Coole had of a recovery were extinguished soon after. McLoughlin took a pass from Conor Harnan and embarked on a mazy 50-metre run before firing to the net for a goal worthy of clinching any final.
