Blanche DuBois arrives in Navan on Wednesday
Navan Theatre Group"s production of 'A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams opens on Wednesday in the Solstice Arts Centre. This is one of Williams" most famous plays and it continues to enthral audiences the world over with its passion, and vibrant characters who rage against their personal demons and the world that surrounds them. Ann Reilly of Navan Theatre Group expressed her delight at the level of excitement and enthusiasm that was being created within the group about the forthcoming production. 'A Streetcar Named Desire" is the haunting story of a beautiful girl who was betrayed by love. Blanche DuBois, played by Nöelle Tobin is tormented by the memory of her tragic marriage and the scandal she precipitated in the small Southern town of her birth. She flees to New Orleans to find refuge with her sister Stella who is played by Ciara Cassoni. Her crude brother-in-law Stanley, played by Darragh Feeney, resents her presence, and in a violent, passionate rage, exposes her past. This ends her hope of escape created through her recent contact with Mitch, played by Nigel Ryan.
