Boliden to meet on future of Tara Mines
Tara Mines this week confirmed that it had received notification in writing from SIPTU that its members had rejected the survival package put forward by management, as the global zinc market continues to deteriorate. Meath SIPTU branch secretary, John Regan, said he already had notified the company verbally of the outcome of a general meeting, when members rejected the controversial survival package. The union had also sent written notification. The date for a board meeting of Boliden, the Swedish owners of Tara Mines, when the future of the Navan mine and others in the group are to be discussed, had not been set yesterday (Tuesday) but speculation was that it might take place this week.
