Kentstown spot on in FAI Junior Cup
Kentstown Rovers 3 Mid-Sutton 3 After extra-time Kentstown 5-4 on penalties Hosts Kentstown claimed a major scalp on Sunday when they defeated Leinster Senior League side Mid-Sutton after a penalty shoot-out in the FAI Junior Cup. Ciaran Macken gave the winners an early lead, but the visitors levelled before half-time. Mid-Sutton went ahead early in the second-half before Gareth Toal finished superbly to send the match to extra-time. Extra-time proved even more dramatic as Kentstown went behind 10 minutes from time only for Derek Bowens to equalise with the last kick of the game to send the match to penalties. Despite missing their first two penalties, Kentstown managed to prevail in the shoot-out thanks to the brilliance of their 17-year-old goalkeeper Eoin O"Connell who saved the vital last penalty to secure victory. Shaun Doyle, O"Connell, Andy Lynch and Toal were outstanding for the winners. Kentstown - E O"Connell; R McDonnell, S Doyle, S Gargan, G Toal, J Macken, A Lynch, S Lynch, Paddy Dunne, Derek Bowens, C Macken. Subs - David Bowens for Macken, Paul Dunne for Gargan.
