Little sister"s illness influences student to organise Temple Street fundraiser

A fundraising event for an isolation unit at Temple Street Children"s Hospital, Dublin, organised by the older sister of a cystic fibrosis sufferer, takes place in Crockett"s of Bective at the weekend. Five year-old Robyn O"Shaughnessy from Lambertstown, Kilmessan, attends the respiratory unit in the hospital on a regular basis, and is currently staying at the hospital. Her sister, Avril, is a transition year student in Dunshaughlin Community College and is organising the fundraiser as part of her transition year project. Life expectancy for cystic fibrosis sufferers in Ireland is 21, whereas in Northern Ireland, where there are better facilities provided by the health services, sufferers live until their 30s. Patients need private isolation units as they need to be in infection-free zones and apart from other cystic fibrosis sufferers. Little Robyn is on permanent antibiotic treatment at home and may possible need a lung transplant in the future. The '80s night fundraiser takes place in the Bective Bar on Saturday night, and all support is welcome.
