Bid to tackle Kells" 'disgraceful" litter
A RENEWED effort to tackle Kells enduring litter will be made in January by town council Cathaoirleach Brian Collins and colleague Cllr Bryan Reilly - following local complaints that the Christmas 'deposit' of rubbish on the town"s streets was at an all-time worst. 'The kindest descriptions locals have complained to me about it have been 'disgraceful", 'unacceptable" and 'unbelieveable" but it"s not getting any better,' said Cllr Collins. The tight budgets of recent years underlined area manager Brendan McGrath"s claims that the €160,000-plus spent annually on cleaning the town streets could be far better spent. 'There are positives, such as the Tidy Towns and Pride of Place works. But we have to engage the public to the very negative signal litter sends every visitor,' said the councillor.
