Greenstar funds 'not getting to most needy"

Money paid by Greenstar, operators of the regional landfill facility at Knockharley, Kentstown, to the local Kentstown community was not getting to people in poor housing conditions, according to Meath County Councillor Tommy Reilly. Applications for nearly €400,000 in funding to the locality - paid in respect of the impact of the landfill - were assessed by Navan councillors at their recent area meeting. However, Cllr Reilly has criticised the process for not taking care of the people who needed this money the most. He said there were elderly people living in the area who needed help with improvements to their homes and Meath County Council, as the lead authority, should be ensuring that these people were looked after first, Cllr Reilly believed. The Fianna Fail councillor was also angered that 100 per cent funding was not provided to Kentstown NS to allow them complete the purchase of land for a new parking area at the school. Cllr Reilly said: 'There are real safety concerns at this primary school and Meath County Council should be ensuring this land is secured immediately.' He added he would not be accepting the deal as it stood and would be urging Greenstar to 'step up to the plate' for the safety of local children.
