Christmas spirit in St Joseph"s Hospital
Dear sir - Taoiseach Brian Cowen rightly thanked all of the emergency services on duty over Christmas and in particular the doctors, nurses and medical staff caring for our sick and elderly. The work of volunteer groups in our community must also be acknowledged, such as the Vincent dePaul and the many volunteers who prepare and deliver the 'meals on wheels" food to our senior citizens on a daily basis. Thanks are due to local businesses and supporters who give generously to the Bohermeen Senior Citizens Group. This group has been visiting St Joseph"s Hospital in Trim for over 27 years and provides refreshments and entertainment for the elderly patients who come from all over the county. The group"s musician Noel Griffin played popular dance music and well known airs on his accordion and the uplifting music could be heard in the nearby wards and along the corridors on New Year"s Day. Musicians Black Porter from Trim were also there on New Year"s Day entertaining the patients and staff with their very popular music. Their rendering of 'The Rose of Moincoin" was uplifting to all and in particular and brought back memories a Kilkenny man nearby. Well done to all of these great people in giving of their time including raising money so that they can entertain the patients in St Joseph"s. A special thank you to the staff on duty over the Christmas in St Joseph"s and especially to these entertainers and volunteers for making this Christmas period which can be lonesome for those without family or visitors a bit more enjoyable and I genuinely hope you will keep visiting the patients in St Joseph"s Hospital in Trim for many years to come. Yours, Cllr Phil Cantwell, Trim.
