Promotion-chasing Torro dropped two points on Sunday when they could only manage a draw away to mid-table Newtown in the Meath & District League Div 1. First-half strikes from Aaron Englishby and Shane Tolan secured a 2-1 interval advantage, but Newtown fought back and went 3-2 in front early in the second-half before Keith Farrell saved Torro"s blushes to leave the sides tied at three goals each. The Kells / Blackwater lads can count themselves unlucky not to have secured all three points when they led by 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining. Longwood"s early lead was cancelled out by Brian Connolly, leaving the sides level at half-time. It was Connolly again who put the visitors in front early in the second-half and another goal from Brian Hanlon looked to have guaranteed full points. However, Longwood battled back valiantly and managed to salvage a draw with two late strikes. Best for Kells / Blackwater were Brian Connolly, Barry Smith, Darren Tormay and Declan Smith. Allan Carty opened the scoring from the spot for the winners and after Parkvilla grabbed an equaliser, Jamie Jordan added another to leave Skryne / Tara 2-1 up at the break. Tara upped their performance in the second-half. Jordan completed his hat-trick before a second from Carty and another from Nicky Hamill rounded off the scoring. The Drogheda side had beaten BMC in Crossakiel seven days earlier, but it was Ollie Melia"s side who were superior throughout this time. It proved to be a dream start for the winners when they went 3-0 ahead in the opening half hour. Joe Melia, Colm Mallon and Jimmy McQuaid grabbed the goals. BMC held this advantage for most of the remainder before Marsh converted a late penalty. Gary Gilsenan, Padraig Cunningham, Phil McGuinness and Thomas Reilly stood out in a fine team display from BMC. A second own goal further helped Knightsbrook"s cause after the break before further goals from Michael Tyndall and Anthony Craig rounded off the scoring.
