Trim Celtic recover to advance in a Challenge Cup thriller
After a series of postponements, this Meath & District League Challenge Cup first round tie finally took place and Trim Celtic shaded the verdict by the odd goal in seven. Trim Celtic striker David Conway was on form to fire home two goals and help complete a remarkable comeback at the MDL on Sunday. At one stage in the first-half wind-assisted OMP led 3-0. Two of their goals came from long-range efforts with another from a header. Shortly before the break Trim Celtic pulled a goal back with Paul Gilsenan setting up Paul Campbell to finish. With the wind behind them the Trim side dominated the second-half. Conway grabbed his first with a header. He bagged another after he was set up by Gilsenan and Colm Harte popped up with a late, dramatic winner with a header. Excellent for the winners were Campbell, Harte and the impressive Aaron Newman. DIVISION 1 Termonfeckin 0 Torro Utd 3 Torro showed that they are well capable of picking up victories on the road when they edged out Termonfeckin in the MDL Div 1 on Sunday. The visitors led at the interval when Peadar Farrelly netted. They added two more after the break. One of the goals were scored by youngster Andrew Tolan with Farrelly also contributing a second. KILMESSAN SHIELD Castle Villa 1 Newtown 2 Castle Villa narrowly lost out to Newtown in this Kilmessan Shield clash played under lights at Moynalty on Friday night. The home side were already in trouble at the interval when they trailed 0-2. They managed to get a goal back through Tommy Thompson however, they were unable to conjure up an equaliser. Mark Carolan, Alan Brogan and Donal Lynch were in fine form for the home side.
