Athboy acts for Helix 'Stars" final
The 'Stars In Yer Eyes" schools talent show visited Athboy Community School recently and students performed to a packed audience of students, parents, staff and members of the Athboy public in the school gym. The arena was awash with colour and excitement as twelve acts battled it out for a place in the regional finals in Dublin later this spring. First on stage was first year student Rút Ní Theimnheán who sang 'Hot and Cold" by Katie Perry to rapturous applause. She was followed by fellow first year Melissa Cooke who gave a wonderful rendition of Sandi Thom"s 'If I Were A Punkrocker." Second year student Bose Allen followed with a powerful version of Rihanna"s 'Cry". Fiona Whelehan, another first year took to the stage afterwards with her troupe of dancers to bring the house down with Kylie Minogue"s 'Wow" which had the whole audience rocking. Fiona was followed on stage by fellow first year Claire Murphy who sang Ashlee Simpson"s 'Boyfriend." The senior students in the school welcomed the next act on stage, fifth year student Gráinne Miggin who sang Britney Spears" 'Love Song" which was again very well received by the huge audience. Following Gráinne was first year student Aine Mooney who performed a wonderful version of Sarah Baralles 'Love Story." Fellow first year Keelan O"Connor opened the second half of the programme with 'Mercy" by Duffy, followed straight away by popular transition year student Ally Doherty who really rocked the crowd with her interpretation of the Amy Winehouse anthem 'Valerie." Another first year Meghan Ennis was next on stage and she really got the audience going with her lively rendition of Pink"s hit anthem 'Get The Party Started." The programme of events finished on a real high when 'Good With Waffles" made up of sixth year students Jordan Milnes, Alan Kelly and Daniel Corrigan and fifth years Brian Sherrock and Craig McGrath entered stage left to perform 'Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness. After the cheering died down the voting commenced and amidst scenes of much tension and excitement, Ally Doherty and Good With Waffles were chosen as the acts to go forward to the regional finals in the Helix Theatre in March. All the students in the show would like to record their thanks to musical director Ms Jacqui McGowan and choreographer Ms Eimir O"Mahony for all their help in preparing for the show.
