Navan Cosmos travelled to Termonfeckin on Sunday and came away with the Meath & District League Div 1 points thanks to a late Joe Martin goal. Cosmos had dominated for long spells, but didn"t seem destined to make a breakthrough until Martin finished to the net at the second attempt. Kevin Ivers, Ivan Reilly, Wayne Murtagh and Martin were most impressive for the winners whose promotion chances are still very much alive after this result. The all-weather pitch is being used as a temporary home by Longwood and the perfect surface contributed to an excellent match between two teams chasing promotion to the Premier. All the goals came in the opening half with Ian Keenan and Aaron Ennis responding to an early Torro strike to give Longwood the lead before Torro made it level again. The home side were behind early on before David Farnan"s strike had the sides level at the break. Donacarney started the second-half brightly and raced into a 3-1 lead, but Fordrew produced a spirited comeback and late strikes from the impressive Colm Tevlin and Pearse O"Hanlon earned a draw. Knightsbrook were always too strong and this victory maintains their six-point advantage in the title race. First-half goals from Craig O"Hanlon and Darren Blaney had the winners 2-0 ahead at half-time. O"Hanlon completed his hat-trick after the interval and further strikes from Anthony Craig and Eddie Murray rounded off the Knightsbrook scoring. The Premier side were made to work hard for their victory despite leading at the break thanks to Kevin Dunphy"s goal. Newtown then looked like causing an upset when two quick second-half goals gave them the advantage. Navan Town fought back however, and a second strike from Dunphy had the sides level before a superb long-range volley from Mark Power settled the tie. The hosts raced into a two-goal lead inside the first half-hour thanks to goals from David Gilkeson and Joseph Farrell. However, Albion fought back strongly and halved the deficit before the interval. The Louth side managed an equaliser in the second-half but neither side could find a winning goal.
