Oldcastle students in saddle for charity
Students, staff and parents from St Oliver Post-Primary School in Oldcastle participated in a fundraising charity ride in aid of the school building fund recently. The event was organised by the parents" association in conjunction with the Ballymacad Hunt and staff member, Ms E Farrelly. In order to promote the event and raise as much money as possible, approximately 20 students participated on the day and each student represented a particular class. Students in each class were encouraged to sponsor their representative and the first year class, Rang Stiofáin, collected the most sponsorship money for their representative, Eoin Leavy. A 'Guess Who" competition was held in the school to guess the name of a staff member who agreed to participate, keeping their identity a mystery until the day of the cycle. The 'mystery rider", Ms Mortell, surprised her students and colleagues by arriving on horseback on the day! The organisers have extended thanks to all the students involved for making the day a success.
