Recent deaths 28-03-09
The regretted death occurred on 27th January last, following a short illness, of Mr Derek Churchill, Townparks, Commons Road, Navan. Mr Churchill, who was aged 42, passed away at Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown. He was a native of Ballsgrove, Drogheda, and was employed as an engineer in Bitec Engineering, Dunleer. Deceased moved to Navan in 1985 to work as a barman in the Russell Arms Hotel, and stayed in Navan when he met and married Julie, who was to be his wife of 20 years. They were inseparable, and their two daughters, Sarah and Nicola, were a constant source of delight to him. He particularly enjoyed walking in Dalgan with Nicola or teaching Sarah how to maintain the car. Mr Churchill also enjoyed golf with his father and brothers. He had also worked with the Claremont Stadium Club, St Mary"s Special School, the Cartwheel School of Motoring, as a driving instructor, and with McGoona Kitchens. Deceased is remembered as a man with a heart of gold who will be missed by family, relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Sarah and Nicola; mother, Rose; father, Billy; sisters, Anne and Deirdre; brothers, Mark and Martin; grandmother, Maggie; brothers-in-law, Liam, Joe, Sean, Enda and Kieran; sisters-in-law, Hazel, Helen, Caroline, Anne, Aoife, and Kim; aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary"s Church to Glasnevin Crematorium. Burial of ashes will take place on 15th May next, at St Finian"s Cemetery, Navan. Joseph Clarke, Simonstown Mr Joseph (Joe) Clarke, who passed away on 14th March, was a founder member of Simonstown Gaels GFC and an honorary president of the club at the time of his death. Aged 68, he had been in ill health for some years, and passed away at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan. Son of the late Thomas and Julia Clarke, deceased was a farmer, and also worked on maintenance at Proudstown Racecourse. Youngsters playing football at the family"s Simonstown lands was the genesis for the formation of the local football club, and Mr Clarke was involved in the foundation of the club in 1965. He held the position of treasurer of Simonstown GFC for 17 years and became honorary treasurer in 1981. He was also a familiar face as groundsman, and as an umpire at adult and juvenile games at Simonstown for many years. He dedicated a great deal of time voluntarily to the club. As a player, he was on the Simonstown panel that qualified for the club"s first ever final, in the Junior B championship of 1970 when they met Navan O"Mahonys, and was the driving force behind the setting up of the juvenile club. Simonstown Gaels paid tribute to him following his passing. Mr Clarke was also a keen follower of Meath GAA. He was immensely devoted to his faith and continued this devotion through the difficult period of his illness in recent years. Deceased is survived by his brothers, Philip, Carlow, Michael and Noel, both Navan; sisters, Maura McDonnell, London, Eileen Mahon, Trim; Margaret Halton, Nottingham, Jean Farrell, Bective, Pauline O"Connor, Johnstown, Navan; in-laws, aunts, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Tommy, and sister, Kitty. The funeral took place from St Oliver"s Church, Navan, to St Mary"s Cemetery. Sean Macken, The Ward & Ashbourne The funeral took place yesterday (Tuesday) of Mr Sean Macken, The Ward, Co Dublin, and late of Killegland, Ashbourne, at Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown. Deceased is survived by his nephew, Eamon; niece, Frances; niece-in-law, Peggy; grandnephew, Jack; extended family, nephews and friends. The funeral took place from St Margaret"s Parish Church, to Glasnevin Crematorium. Margaret Foley, Boyerstown Widespread sadness was caused by the death of Mrs Margaret Foley, Robinrath, Boyerstown, at Our Lady"s Hospital, Navan, on 24th February last. A native of Curraha, she was a member of the Nolan family, and was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1973, and her son, Paul, in 1989. Mrs Foley is remembered as a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her family, Alice, Kathleen, Paddy, Jimmy, Bernie, Brendan, Liam, John, Ann, and Joseph; sister, Josie; in-laws, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. The funeral took place from St Mary"s Church to St Mary"s Cemetery. Fr William Coleman, CC, Navan, and Fr Andy Farrell, PP, Trim, concelebrated. Maire Quinn, Dublin & Navan The death recently occurred of Mrs Máire V Quinn, a native of Navan, at Howth Hill Nursing Home in Dublin. She was aged 75. Deceased, who lived with her husband, Christy Quinn, at Alden Drive, Sutton, Dublin, was originally Maire McEvilly of Emmet Terrace and Mercy Convent, Navan. She worked as a hairdresser in The Vogue, Trimgate Street, Navan, for a number of years. Deceased is survived in addition to her husband, by her daughters, Edel and Joan; sons, Donal, Francis and Gary; sisters, Mairead O"Brien, Moatville, Navan, and Kathleen Keelan, Cabra Road, Thurles, Co Tipperary. The funeral took place from Bayside Church, Sutton, to St Mary"s Cemetery, Navan.
