Lighting needed for Athboy"s Fair Green

Street lighting is needed in Athboy"s Fair Green, according to Catherine Yore, a Fine Gael candidate for the local elections. 'The Athboy Fair Green is a wonderful amenity and a very popular area for walking,' she says. 'Street lighting is badly needed. It is a big issue with many, particularly women who feel that their security would be enhanced substantially by the provision of lighting.' Ms Yore said that walking is one of the cheapest and healthiest recreations available to young and old alike, and that there is a pay back in terms of quality of life and a happier healthier community, which will need less resources from the health budget in the long run. 'It would be worthwhile looking at modern lighting technology such as LED-type street lighting which only costs a small fraction of the cost of traditional type street lights to run,' she suggested.
