Council levies not being spent properly: candidate

County council election candidate Adrian O"Donnell has asked why levies collected by the local authority for infrastructure such as roads is not put back into the relevant projects, such as road improvements in the areas they have been collected in. 'The roads in the Castletown, Kilberry, and Rathkenny areas are in very bad condition in general,' the Navan area candidate says. 'To read a front page article in last week"s Meath Chronicle stating that Central Government has ordered Meath County Council not to spend the money collected from development levies is an absolute disgrace. One would have to question why the roads were allowed into such a deplorable state in the first place when no order was in place.' He highlighted School Road in Rathkenny, of approximately one mile in length and in recent years a lot of development has taking place on it. 'Upwards of €150,000 would have being collected in levies by Meath County Council over the last couple of years on this road alone and all for what?' he asked. 'This road is now in an almost impassable condition along with many more in these areas. Levies or no levies, money or no money, something must be done about these roads urgently.'
