Six Meath groups benefit from Intel largesse

Intel last week celebrated the success of its 2008 Matching Grant initiative which rewarded 80 community organisations nationwide with €300,000. Six organisations from the Meath region were part of Intel"s 2008 Matching Grant Scheme and thus will receive funding of €20,000. The six are Clonard Community Games, Kilmainham GFC Balyna Juvenile Gaelic Football Club, Kilbride GFC, Ashbourne Rugby Football Club and Seneschalstown Ladies" Football Club. A one million-hour volunteer challenge was posed to employees worldwide by Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO to celebrate Intel"s 40th anniversary. For every one hour volunteered by employees, Intel gave €7.50 to the selected organisation. The goal was to continue to give back to local communities by collectively donating employee time as well as donating much-needed funds. The 2008 Matching Grant initiative signified a major broadening of the Intel Foundation programme as part of Intel"s commitment to local communities. The programme, which was previously open only to schools, was extended beyond education to various non-profit organisations. The programme was designed to recognise and motivate Intel employees globally to engage in outreach and volunteerism in order to make our communities a better place to live, work and play. The Intel Foundation then matched euros for every hour donated by the employees.
