Lack of rural transport in North Meath

The lack of public transport available to people with reduced mobility and infrequent services in rural areas of north Meath have been highlighted by local election candidate, Catherine Yore. She has called for an accessibility audit on public transport connecting the towns, villages and rural communities of north Meath. 'In recent weeks, while meeting people from Kells to Oldcastle and Athboy to Nobber, it has become quite apparent that people feel that they are stranded in their homes due to lack of frequent public transport in the area. 'Coupled with this, there is a lack of public transport equipped for those with reduced mobility and wheelchair users in north Meath. Transport services, such as those offered by Flexibus, need to be fully supported, expanded on and developed in order to meet the needs of the people in north Meath,' she said. 'In the months and years ahead, people will be using public transport a lot more and it is imperative that standards are improved for all users. The Government missed the boat over the past ten years,' she added.
