Call for better green maintenance
Residents in the Madeline Court and Blackthorn Close areas of Kells want better maintenance of their green area, as the grass is now encroaching on road and footpaths. Local election candidate, Philip Heary, has called on the council to do more and has suggested that Kells gets the same equipment used for mowing in Navan. 'Badly cut grass on these council maintained estates is a real eyesore and reduces their use as public open spaces. Council staff are doing their best but the equipment is not suitable for commercial operations and insufficient for the huge green spaces in the town. 'The mower in Kells is unable to get into corners, edges or around trees. In Navan, the machinery is self-propelled with a front-mounted cutting deck. This allows greater control and accuracy. 'Our councillors could go on a fact-finding mission to Navan and learn a thing or two, before the grass starts growing into peoples doors!' he said.
