Kells Theatre School"s production a great success
Plenty of talent was on display in Kells Theatre School"s eighth annual production, which featured over 60 children from Kells and the surrounding areas in wonderful shows. Mini musicals, including 'The Outlaw Robby Hood", 'Plus Cinders" and 'The Sleeping Beauty" featured lots of songs and dances and a host of great characters. The children, aged between seven and 14 years, had been busy in their weekly workshops of drama, dance, singing, and creative story-telling since last October and their big moment arrived when they displayed their talents on stage. Another feature of the school was the publication of a book of stories written by the students. This concept has generated great enthusiasm among the children, who were very creative in their writing, said Gaye Grant, who was in charge of the project. Artistic director and drama tutor John Grant said all the students had worked very hard over the year and deserved the great attendances at the two shows. The students received their certificates of completion at the final performance from Kells Town Council chairman Brian Collins, who paid a tribute to the students and staff. Brian O"Neill provided the lighting while Kathleen McGovern and the students provided the singing. Helena Sheridan"s dance routines entertained, while Aaron Byrne kept the show moving with all the effects, with Gary Byrne on sound. Alan Grant, along with Shane McLoughlin, were in charge of the stage management, while Vinnie Ginnity, Karen Donlon and Shonagh McGovern worked behind the scenes to ensure a smooth running order. The Kells Theatre School operates in three terms from October to May each year. Anyone wishing to join can contact John Grant on (087) 207 9557 for application forms.
