Kentstown soccer player hospitalised
KENTSTOWN Rovers player Sean Doyle is in hospital this week after he received a serious eye injuring during the Meath & District League relegation / promotion play-off at Kentstown on Sunday. Doyle is alleged to have received an elbow in the face after about 10 minutes of the contest which was described as 'not a dirty match.' Kentstown lost 0-3 and were relegated. The player received treatment for the injury which included painkillers on the field of play, but continued on for the rest of the game. Afterwards, when the pain persisted, he was brought to hospital in Navan before he was sent to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he had an operation for a broken eye socket bone this week. Doyle was due to start a new job on Wednesday however, he is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks and may have to wear a protective mask. Sean Doyle"s brother David Doyle, who was also playing with Kentstown against Marsh Celtic, says that the family are unhappy that the match officials did not blow up the play quicker or take sanctions against the March Celtic player involved in the incident. He also suggested that they would be looking at their legal options. 'We lost the game fair and square, we have no problem with that,' David Doyle told the Meath Chronicle. 'What annoyed us was that the referee didn"t stop the play or even show a card to the Marsh Celtic player who was involved. 'The match officials apparently didn"t see the incident and when we tried to get onto to pitch were weren"t allowed to by the linesman. 'We were told beforehand if there was any head injuries we had to go out and treat the player immediately. The play didn"t stop until about 30 seconds after the incident when someone kicked the ball out. When we ran onto the pitch Sean had basically a dent in his face,' he added. Soon after the incident Kentstown Rovers manager Shane Kavanagh and his assistant Stephen Laverty were sent to the dressing room by the match official for protesting. There were also problems of a less serious nature in Trim where cup winners Glenmuir failed to turn up for a crucial game. Glenmuir are now facing sanctions from the MDL after they failed to turn up for a Premier clash with Trim Celtic on Sunday. Glenmuir"s failure to show came just a week after they defeated Trim Celtic in the MDL Challenge Cup final at United Park.
