'Suburban Shadows" paintings at Ashbourne exhibition
'Suburban Shadows" is an exhibition of work by acclaimed Dublin artist Mary Burke, which will be opened by Meath County Council manager Tom Dowling at the Toradh Gallery, Ashbourne, on Thursday of next week, 11th June at 7pm. The focus of this new body of work is Suburbia, which the artist has explored for more than two decades. The suburbs have often been described as characterless, anonymous, bourgeois, and boring yet the suburban experience is common to most of us and can be either positive or negative. Whether these works will evoke feelings of nostalgia or alienation depends largely on the personal experience of those who view them. This work consists of a series of oil pastels depicting shadows cast on both the interiors and exteriors of suburban houses both day and night. The exhibition will remain on public viewing until 17th July.
