Students" achievements lauded at Athboy school
The end of year awards and graduation Mass recently took place at Athboy Community School, where Robyn Perry was presented with the Student of the Year Award by principal Anthony Leavy and year heads, Ann Coy and Shirley Gillick. Robyn is an excellent academic but has also contributed hugely to the school community during her time in Athboy, according to the school. She played soccer for the school in each of her five years as well as Gaelic football and participated in French exchanges and other school tours. She received a huge round of applause and was a very deserving and popular winner. Aine Keogh and Gary Ennis were presented with the female and male sports personality of the year awards, respectively, by teacher Tony Magner. Aine played camogie with the school throughout her five years as a student and represents Meath at county level. She was also captain of the school"s girls" soccer team and played Gaelic football with distinction. She, too, has been a fantastic ambassador for the school. Gary played soccer with distinction for the school throughout his five years as a student and acted as assistant manager to junior teams in his final year. He also represented the school in Gaelic football and was a popular winner of the award. Ms Ita Taite, first year head, presented student of the year awards to Rúth Ní Theimhneán in the Bealtaine class with Adam O"Neill, Meghan Ennis and Darren McGourty highly commended; Aoife Dunne in the Lunasa class, with Fiona Whelehan and Aoife McDermott highly commended, and Kiera Barrett in the Samhain class with Melissa Cooke, Sophie Kelly and Colin Tonge highly commended. Year head for second year, Mr O"Dowd presented Ayodeji Olaleye with the Euclid class Award with Stephen Coleman, Sean Jones and Shannon McManus commended. In the Newton class, Nadine Campion scooped the award with Madison Cloak, Lynsey Delaney, Shaun Smith and Leanne Reilly also having been shortlisted. The winner in the Cayley class was Richard Browne with Caoimhe Carney, Antonia Foy and Hannah Ryan commended. The Descartes class award went to Steffi Kelly with Ciara McGurl, Sinead Delea and Aideen Duffy also shortlisted. In the Venn class, Adam Uzell emerged victorious with Brendan Roe, Jennifer Ellis and Sinead Slater runners-up. The Junior Certificate student of the year award was presented by Mr McHugh to Racheal Browne. Also commended in third year were Jemma Deane Maugham, Amy Walsh, Cliodhna Barrett, Padraic McGurl and Corinna Hynes. Fifth year head Ms Comiskey presented the class students of the year awards to Martina Kelly in the Lee class, Adam Bohan in the Liffey class and Ellen Byrne and Niamh Collins in the Lagan class.
