Meath Heritage cycle set for Sunday

Those interested in cycling are encouraged to put on their helmets and get on their bikes as part of a massive event which takes place on Sunday. The An Post Meath Heritage Cycle Tour was officially launched by Government Minister Noel Dempsey a couple of weeks ago. This new event is part of the An Post Cycle series which is taking place across four other counties over the summer and is being organised in the Royal County by Meath Local Sports Partnership. This tour provides opportunities for everyone to get involved, according to Meath LSP co-ordinator Mary Murphy. 'If you are not up to long distance cycling, why not take the family out for the 40km spin, or perhaps you would like to assist either of the two nominated charities - Meath Alzheimer Group and Aisling Group International - with the marshalling of the event,' she commented. According to the organisers this event offers something for everyone. Participants can choose from three different routes; 40km family tour, 100km Royal tour and 160km Royal challenge. All routes start and finish at Trim Castle. Where possible each route takes in some of the historical beauty of Meath and if cycling along the country roads of Meath is not fulfilling enough cyclists can also raise funds for the two nominated charities associated with this event - Meath Alzheimer Group and Aisling Group International. Anyone interested in either participating in this event or volunteering should contact Meath Local Sports Partnership (046) 9067337 or log onto www.meathlocalsportspartnership.ie for further details. The Meath Local Sports Partnership have also joined with various cycling clubs to organise recreational spins. These include: Navan RC Tuesdays, 7.30 and Sundays, 10.30 from Teach na Teamhrach, formally Balreask Arms. Bohermeen CC, Tuesdays, 7.0 and Sundays, 10.0, Bohermeen Community Centre; Dunboyne CC (Philip Finnegan 087 9971493); Stamullen RC (Gay Howard 087 2040959); Oldcastle TC Racing (Tom Clogher 086 2306690).
