Get to know the neighbours in Athboy this weekend
The local Macra club was asked to perform in Marley Park last year for the Know Your Neighbour Weekend, and had a fantastic day. This year the club hopes to provide live entertainment from local musicians and bands, including Kane O"Rourke, Crawdaddy Mango and Good With Waffles. There will also be entertainment from local groups such as the Cassells School of Dancing. Sports activities will be held on the day for children, and all are welcome to bring along a picnic and enjoy the atmosphere! A cake sale will also take place, and all proceeds will go towards club member Aoife O"Reilly"s volunteer trip to Ecuador. The fourth Know Your Neighbour Weekend this coming weekend has seen communities across the country busy requesting packs and organising events in their locality in an effort to get to know their neighbours. Events range from coffee mornings, barbecues, local area tidy ups and sandcastle competitions. Macra na Feirme national president, Michael Gowing, says the organisation and sponsors ESB Customer Supply are once again delighted and astounded with people"s eagerness to get involved in the Know Your Neighbour Weekend and to get organising events. 'It"s a very positive reflection on our society and it is great to see,' said Mr Gowing. 'Last year, we sent out roughly 1,500 organisers packs and this year we hoped to build on this figure and send out 2,000 packs and we have almost reached our target, so we are delighted.' Mr Gowing said they have had requests for packs from as far away as South Australia with many packs being requested from the UK, from people in Essex, Cheshire and Leeds, 'We were surprised when we received all these requests, but it goes to show what an appealing idea Know Your Neighbour is for people,' concluded Mr Gowing.
