Loughcrew Estate opens new adventure centre

The new Loughcrew Adventure Course was officially opened at Loughcrew Gardens last week by Meath footballing legend, Colm O"Rourke. A large number of enthusiastic families and groups, as well as local public representatives from near and far gathered to see Colm O"Rourke cut the ribbon on top of the 30 feet tower for the longest zip-wire in Ireland. Harnessed and helmeted, he zipped 130 metres through the trees landing safely into the hands of one of the qualified instructors situated at the first element of this fun and challenging course. Open seven days a week, the adventure course offers a great day out for all sorts of groups, from schools, guides and scouts to GAA clubs, hens and stag parties as well as corporate groups. The facilities are open to groups of people over 12 years of age and gives users a chance to build their confidence, balance, strength and team spirit in the unspoilt forest and lake adjoining the famous Loughcrew Gardens. The adventure course includes abseiling, wall climbing, ropes course, archery and raft building. Loughcrew Gardens have been busy this year and just over a week ago played host to the Quantum Theatre Group"s production of 'Alice Through the Looking-Glass". This family favourite followed the very successful production of La Boheme which was held at Loughcrew over the June Bank Holiday weekend. A new opera company was formed for the production which starred some of the country"s finest operatic talent.
