Tennis-themed cookery contest a smash-hit in Trim

Knightsbridge Nursing Home and Retirement Village in Trim hosted a very successful Wimbledon-themed chef's competition last Wednesday. The annual competition takes place in every Barchester Healthcare home and challenges the catering team to present the very best of regional cooking from across Ireland and the UK to residents, families and friends. This year, Knightsbridge Village hosted a Wimbledon-themed event. The catering team, led by Trim local Laurentia Vaughan, presented a mouthwatering selection of appetising dishes for residents to enjoy, including cock-a-leekie and dumplings, stuffed trout, bacon and cabbage, welsh roast potatoes and bacon, Cumberland sausage, Wensleydale tarts and pork pie. Later in the afternoon, the focus of the event moved outdoors where a marquee tent was set up. Residents, visitors and guests enjoyed the mild temperature and sunshine as they were treated to Wimbledon-themed refreshments, including strawberries and cream, cucumber sandwiches and Pimms. The party atmosphere was complemented by musician Paud Griffin and accomplished vocal performances from Barchester residents. Barchester staff also played their part in the Wimbledon theme with a round-robin tennis tournament featuring staff from across the nursing home. The tennis competition was eventually won by Dave Dowling, with Mary Smith coming in a close second. A great day was had by all and a special thanks went to all the younger supporters and visitors who worked very hard as ballboys and ballgirls throughout the day.
