Bank workers told to be on lookout for stolen dollars following Trim break-in

Trim Gardai are appealing to bank and bureau de change workers who may be offered large amounts of US dollars to change to contact them after a burglary in a house in the town where US$5,000 and €10,000 in cash were stolen. The break-in occurred between 5am and 12.20pm on Monday at a house in Avondale, Trim. The front door was forced and a substantial amount of cash was taken, consisting of $5,000 and €10,000. Gardai are anxious for those working in a bank or bureau de change to contact them if they are suspicious of anyone trying to change a large amount of dollars. Ashbourne Gardai are investigating a burglary at a filling station at Kilmoon Cross in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, 9th September. At around 12.50am, three men wearing balaclavas broke into the filling station and took the contents of the till, estimated at a few hundreds euro and a large quantity of cigarettes from the cigarette machine, with an estimated valued of €6,000. They left the scene at 1.03am in the Duleek/Drogheda direction and a witness saw them leave in a dark-coloured Skoda Octavia. A burglary at another filling station in Clonard at 4.15am on Monday is also being investigated. Entry was gained by forcing the back door and the premises was ransacked, the cigarette machine was broken and emptied and the culprits tried to open a safe but were unsuccessful. A car was broken into at Gormanston between 12.45pm and 1.45pm on Sunday afternoon. The owner had put her handbag into the boot of the car and Gardai believe the culprit saw her doing so. Laytown Gardai are investigating. At 10pm on Saturday evening, Gardai from the Navan Drugs unit seized €1,250 of cocaine and €100 of cannabis resin in a search of a hosue at Tailteann Crescent on the Windtown Road. A 36-year-old man was arrested and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Meanwhile, an envelope containing a quantity of cash that was found on a footpath at Bachelor's Walk, Ashbourne, was handed into local Gardai. The envelope was handed into the Garda station at around 5.30pm last Friday evening. The owner is asked to contact Ashbourne Gardai.
