Navan set up Clontarf test

David Geraghty powered over for a late try to secure victory for Navan in this Leinster Senior League Cup encounter at Naas on Saturday. This could yet prove to be a significant psychological victory for the Balreask Old side as the two teams meet in the opening round of the AIL Div 3 on Saturday, 10th October. This victory also ensured Navan a place in the quarter-finals of the Cup against AIL heavyweights Clontarf. Naas made the stronger start in this encounter and they registered a converted try early on, but Navan made a swift response when David King powered over for a touchdown, converted by Karl Manning. Thomas Geraghty scored a second try for Navan however, on this occasion Manning missed the conversion. Thomas Clarke came on to score Navan's third try and while Manning spurned the conversion attempt Navan were firmly in control, 17-7, at the break. Early in the second-half Naas grabbed two converted tries in quick succession to edge ahead, 21-17. In the closing stages Manning kicked deep into the Naas half, a poor clearance was chased down by Thomas Geraghty, Brad Harris pounced to collect the ball and passed to David Geraghty who went over for the late dramatic try that gave Navan victory.
