Enable Ireland opens support centre
Enable Ireland's new Meath centre was officially opened yesterday (Tuesday) by Councillor Joe Reilly, Mayor of Navan. The new centre will provide a range of supports and therapy for children with disabilities and/or developmental delay from birth to six years of age. Approximately 150 children from Navan and its surrounding areas will benefit from the newly refurbished clinical and therapy rooms, sensory room, and ample meeting and training rooms for parents and staff. Teams working in the new centre include speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and child and family support workers. Parents who have been accessing the service since it opened are delighted with the new facility. The new Navan centre will also be home to Meath Adult Services which provides a personal assistant service to 18 adults with physical and sensory disabilities, living in County Meath. The aim of the service is to facilitate service users, many of whom live in rural areas, to participate in their community to a level of their choice. For many, the only opportunity to access services in their community is with their personal assistant. Enable Ireland director of services Mary Fox said: "This is an exciting day for all the service-users, children and families that attend services here and for the staff working here. We're looking forward to settling into our new home and delivering services in an appropriate and well-equipped setting that families and staff deserve." The north-east regional office is also based in the Navan centre providing regional support and leadership to ensure that services are delivered in line with Enable Ireland's strategy for services across Cavan, Monaghan and Meath. This includes support in relation to human resources, finance, information technology, communication and other management supports. Enable Ireland hopes to further enhance the building with a major fundraising gala ball on 10th October in Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim. The proceeds will help buy specialised equipment and ensure that state-of-the-art facilities are provided for children in services in Meath. It will also help Enable Ireland in Meath to continue to support access to sport and leisure activities and improve their transport service for adults. Some tickets still available and all support is welcome.
