The parish of Carnaross lost one of its most popular figures last Friday following the death at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, after a short illness, of Mr John Reilly, Cornasase. Aged 78, Mr Reilly farmed in the area all his life. Son of the late Bernard and Julia Reilly of Cornasase, he took over the family holding from his late father and was a well-liked and highly respected member of the local community, as well as a familiar figure at the local mart where he bought and sold cattle and sheep over his lifetime. He was involved in virtually every initiative in the parish which benefited the local community, as well as being a member and loyal supporter of Carnaross GFC, the club for which he played in his younger years. In addition to supporting his local club, he was also a loyal follower of the Meath team and enjoyed many a day in Croke Park. A gentleman to his fingertips, he always had a ready smile and friendly word for everyone, and his retirement years were filled with joy with the arrival of his grandchildren, upon which he doted. The late Mr Reilly was predeceased by his son, Sean, who died tragically in a road accident in January 1993, and by his brothers, former Moynalty parish priest, Fr Patrick Reilly, and Farrell Reilly, and by his sister, Mrs Peggy Davis. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Bernard; daughter, Sheila; sister, Mrs Ellie Nagle, Belfast; son-in-law, Ger; daughter-in-law, Evelyn; grandchildren, Aisling, Aoife, John, Saoirse and Sean, in addition to other relatives. There was a large and representative turnout of mourners at both the removal of his remains to Carnaross Church on Saturday evening and at the funeral Mass there on Sunday, which was concelebrated by Carnaross PP, Monsignor John Hanly, assisted by Fr Peter Farrelly, PP, Beauparc. The hearse bearing Mr Reilly's remains was flanked by a guard of honour drawn from members of Carnaross GFC as it made it way from the church to the Holy Family Cemetery, Carnaross, for burial. _____________________________________________________________ Jason Doran, Cork and Drewstown The death occurred on 11th October last of Mr Jason Doran (27), of Dunvale Heights, Grange, Frankfield, Cork.
